Kinja'd!!!

It was a long day at work so I decided to treat myself to a nice bottle of gin. Enjoying this on the rocks with a squeeze of lime. I have to say I have been exploring a lot of very nice gins lately and this has to be the smoothest yet. (Especially after the barrel aged "Few" that had a bit of an Oakey bite)
This is truly an enjoyable gin with a wide range of botanicals, all of which stand on equal ground with the juniper. The finish is piney with a soft lavender note and gives a slight puckered mouth feel before it evokes a mouth watering response that begs for the next sip. If I wasn't constantly looking for the next unique Gin I would revisit this frequently. Luckily this is my first glass, so I have plenty left to enjoy.

Think it would make a good gin and tonic?

I don't think I have ever had anything other than a gin and tonic. Maybe I tried gin straight once when I was stupid…

If you get a chance you might try Dry Fly. It's very nice.

I like gin and tonic for anything Tanqurey (spelling is wrong) or cheaper. For these small batch gins I drink them with a squeeze of lime on the rocks. Some are better than others but with small batch bottles I don't like to mix. It's like putting coke in a small batch whiskey (even though I hate whiskey)

Good gin is really a flavor trip. I'm not talking Bombay or tanq but uniquely blended options are amazing to explore. You really should check them out. Barrel aged can be lots of fun

Tanqueray is my favorite for a gin and tonic so far. Never been big on straight gin, but maybe I just haven't given enough a chance.

Tanq Is my go to gin and tonic...wouldn't do It on the rocks...nor any other mainstream gin (bombay, beefeater, Hendricks, etc.) If I was you I would do some research. Check out uncle vals botanical, ransom 's old tom, and other barrel aged. I really wanna try random house imperial barrel aged (I think I got that name right) it's from boulder and looks amazing

Excellent! I prefer just a small lime wedge and ice. Let me know your thoughts on it.

What's your opinion on Bombay Sapphire? I'm a gin and tonic guy, but I've never had Bombay. Is that better for straight with a lime?

Also; rum and coke was my drink of disaster in college, gin and tonics are becoming my drink of disaster in adulthood.

It's not my favorite and I wouldn't drink it straight. Tanq I'd my go to gin and tonic gin. New Amsterdam is my cheap gin. I only pay more than tanq for gins I can drink straight. I have always been a gin person. I just have been into developing my tastes in it more lately. As a straight liquor there are man craft gins that are mind blowing lyrics great. You just have to research. Start with botanical gins as they off lots of flavors.... check out barrel aged if you are a dark liquor fan or if u like whiskeys and bourbons.

I used to hate gin, until I started drinking it in martinis and gibsons, with a really good gin. In my opinion, most gin cocktails do it a disservice because most of the mixers that go in them, oddly, make the gin taste like crap on the palate. When you drink it straight, you can taste how delicate and subtly flavored it is (or can be, depending on the gin). I grew up with cheap gin that tasted like chewing on a juniper bush, but nowadays there's a lot of really nice, refined examples out there. My favorite gin cocktail, really (besides martinis) is just gin and regular sparkling water, not tonic, on the rocks. It doesn't mask or clash with the flavor of the gin, and lets its subtle sweetness come through.

I don't like gin. So I drink the best rum in the world instead. Tonight is a good night.

Very nice choice sir. I'm a huge rum fan in the summer. My rum of choice is the costa rican Centenario 25 year. It's by far the best rum I have ever had. (Try to find a bottle every time I go down) I am going to put the one you pictured on my list of to Dos for the summer.

It is definitely one of my favorites! You a gin guy? Have you had the Ransom ' s old tom? It's barrel aged and absolutely amazing

Centenario is good stuff. It was my go-to before I spent a couple months living in Guatemala and got addicted to Zacapa. Be sure you get the Solera 23 year old. They do older and more expensive stuff, but the 23 is the best. It's just on another level than every other rum I've ever had (although I tried Zaya recently, which is almost worthy of being mentioned in the same sentence). It's almost more like drinking a really good whiskey.

That I am! It's my favorite of the spirits. I'm most partial to good old London Dry style gins (my favorite is actually a mid-priced gin called Greenall's that I've only seen sold at Total Wine stores — guess it's what Jalops would call a sleeper), but I've also been enjoying the so-called "American Dry" gins like Bluecoat, Death's Door and Dry Fly that are playing around with unconventional botanicals.

To be honest, I've heard mentions of barrel aged gin lately but I have not looked into it at all. I also enjoy bourbon so I am intrigued. Are there some you'd recommend in addition to Ransom Old Tom?

Yesterday when i picked up the botanist I also held a bottle of Greenalls as i contemplated my decision. Ultimately I went with the botanist because I Felt it would be a better on the rocks than the greenalls. My guess is greenalls is a good cocktail gin. I LOVE deaths door, but I am from wisconsin so i have to have some pride towards it, Rehorst from here in milwaukee is also very good.

As for Barrel aged, there is a very small amount of options out there. I have had the Ransom Old Tom and one called "Few" . Of the two I much preferred the Ransom as the oakey, whiskey taste was much less dominant and the botanicals were much more balanced. The Few was still very good. I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to get my hands on a bottle of the Random House Imperial Barrel Aged Gin from Random House Distillery in Boulder CO. If you want a good Botanical gin I HIGHLY recommend you get your hands on Uncle Val's Botanical Gin. That shit has a crazy pallet to it, its not barrel aged but its just so complex and so amazing!
